Rob's Wild Weekend Recap- A Crazy Football Sunday

Giant Choke Job

This game looked like it was over, but things changed drastically.  The Giants blew a 21 point lead with 7 minutes left in the game.  Michael Vick went crazy, running and throwing the ball, as the Giants defense did a complete 180 from its performance the first 3 quarters.  The Eagles also had a successful onside kick after they cut the lead to 14.  The Giants found every way possible to blow the game.

Here is Vick's touchdown pass to tied the game at 31.

As shocking as it was that the game got to this point, the biggest shock was yet to come.  When it looked like the game was guaranteed to go to overtime, the unbelievable happened.  The Giants, whose special teams and punter have been awful all year, gave their fans every reason in the world to jump off the George Washington Bridge on their way home.  I still do not know how this happened.  Cover your eyes Giant fans.

The punter should be kicked off the team for not kicking the ball out of bounds.  How do you allow DeSean Jackson to get the ball in his hands in that situation?  Has he not watched film on him? All he had to do was turn on SportsCenter to realize that.   I love how Jackson show boated on his way to the end zone.  It was even better than the backwards dive from last week.  He is so good and knows it, adding more salt to the wound.  As bad as the loss was, the Giants would still be in the playoffs and a win next week at Green Bay would most likely clinch a spot for them.

This was not the first time the Giants lost to the Eagles on a punt return.

Jets Survive

This is what needs to be done when your offense is totally pathetic.

Brad Smith is the Jet's best offensive weapon as he gets them off to a great start.

Like usual, the defense allowed the Steelers to march down the field to begin the second half and score a touchdown to take a 17-10 lead.  Surprisingly the Jets came back and scored their first offensive touchdown in 198 plays.  To be exact, it was the Bengals game on Thanksgiving.  Your eyes are not playing tricks on you in this video, they really did score.  I forgot what it looked like too.

Nick Folk kicked a field goal to give the Jets a 20-17 lead and the defense actually stepped up to stop the Steelers.  Jason Taylor decided to show up for a game.

Some might have thought the game was over, but this is the Jets.  Why would they ever make a game easy on themselves?   Lets allow Pittsburgh to drive 90 yards down the field.  It was typical Jets defense as the pass rush was non existent and receivers were open all over the place.  Would it be another last second loss by a New York football team?  As every Jet fans heart beat accelerated to the point of bursting, they stopped them.

After this victory, my bet would be the loud mouth Jets are back (They were all talking about championships in the post game press conference). This was a huge win and most thought they would lose, but my advice would be to take the victory quietly and worry about beating the Bears next week.  Everyone knows though, Rex is Rex, and he does nothing quietly.

The Giants and Jets are both better off making the playoffs as Wild Card teams because neither plays well at home.  The new Meadowlands stadium is a home field disadvantage.  The road has brought out the best in them, and that is where both will probably be in the playoffs.

First Half Disaster Cost Jets Super Bowl Trip

AFC Championship Game- Jets at Steelers

So much for WFAN's Craig Carton predicting a 23-0 Jet victory.

It's not your day when the other team has a 9 minute touchdown scoring drive to open the game. The Steelers totally bullied the Jets so called great defense. I lost count of the amount of missed tackles on Steeler running backs.

It might have been the most non-competitive first half I have ever seen in a football game. The Jets had one yard rushing. The Steelers had 135. On this touchdown run by Big Ben, he looked like Moses parting the Red Sea, as he was not even touched.

It actually got worse the next time the Jets had the ball.

The second half was much better for the Jets.  Amazingly, they cut the lead to 24-19.   Unfortunately though, they wasted so much time on their scoring drives as they looked confused and unorganized.  There was no sense of urgency. Do they practice the hurry up offense?  I also want to know why they were having so many problems getting plays called.  They looked like a middle school team.

The Steelers were able to run out the clock with a few big completions by Big Ben.  Here was the clincher.

This is now 2 straight championship game losses.  Soon this story will become very old.  New York is about winning championships, not losing in AFC championship games.   I really hope Jet fans are angry about this loss and do not give some lame rationale on how they are happy with the season.  On Hard Knocks Rex said they would win the Super Bowl.  They failed and Jet fans should be angry.  Losing to the Steelers was not acceptable.  Do me a favor, win a Superbowl and then you can talk about how good you are.
