The Bearded Jack-Ass

I was shocked to hear about Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards getting arrested for drunk driving.   How could something like that happen to him? Isn't he such a upstanding guy and model citizen?   He showed how much of a class act he was on Sunday getting a 15 yard penalty for taunting after scoring a touchdown.  He was lucky not to get one after taunting again when catching a two point conversion.  Even Rex was not happy about his behavior during the game, and it takes a lot for Rex to be mad about a player.  Edwards is also the same guy that punched out someone half his size in a Cleveland night club last year.  Cleveland had enough of him and shipped him off to the Jets.

It gets me so annoyed when celebrities and athletes get arrested for drunk driving.  Can't they afford to hire a driver or  call a cab?  If I had that type of money, I would never drive.  Going out and having a few drinks for a good time is no big deal,  just don't get in front of a wheel.  With all the stories on the news about deaths caused by drunk drivers, you would think Edwards would know better.  To make it worst, he was double the legal limit, and teammates D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Vernon Gholston were with him.  I guess friends do let friends drive drunk.  The real icing on the cake here is that the Jets offer a free luxury limo car service for their players to prevent drunk driving.

This was such a selfish move by Edwards.  The Jets have high hopes for a big season, and Edwards must play a big part for that to happen.  This is not something the Jets want to deal with.  Edwards is on already on probation for the fight in Cleveland, and  risks further discipline by the Jets and NFL.   Furthermore, the NFL has cracked down on their players.  They can not be happy about seeing another player getting arrested.  The NBA gets a bad rap for having so many troubled players, but it seems like the NFL is one hundred times worse.  It seems like this is a common occurrence in the league each week.  I would be shocked if the league or Jets do not respond with some type of suspension.

Speaking of Common occurances this isn't the first time Braylon has been involved in a late night of drinking ending with a DUI charge. In July 2009, Edwards was drinking with then-fellow Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth at a Miami hotel and nightclub, racking up a bill of totalling $3,443, which included $1,500 on Perrier-Jouet Rose champagne and $695 on Grey Goose vodka. Stallworth's credit card receipts showed he sent a $375 bottle of Patron Silver to Edwards' table, and ordered five shots of the tequila for $90. After their night of drinking, Stallworth fatally struck 59-year-old pedestrian Mario Reyes with his vehicle. Stallworth was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter and apparently buying the family of the victims guilt away from them.

The Jets are preparing this week to face the 2-0 Miami Dolphins, and now they must deal with this garbage. I guess all the publicity received with "Hard Knocks" was not enough.  Edwards probably wishes "Hard Knocks" filmed his night out drinking because the camera guy could have driven him home.
