Giants Announce: Come Get Some

After a disappointing end to the season and an off season where it seemed like they did not exist in this town, the Giants opened the season with a 31-18 victory over the Carolina Panthers.  With all the talk and hype going towards the Jets, the Giants reminded everyone they still exist.  New York is still a Giant town.  Lets not forget this team won a Superbowl three years ago and 12 games the year after that.  They also began last season 5-0 before an awful collapse.  A big part of their down fall was losing several key players, and those players are now back.  The Giants don't yap their mouths like a bunch of idiots and boast how good they are, causing many to forget their quality of talent.

Both the offense and defense looked good against the Panthers.  The defense which was a major question mark coming into the season, played an excellent second half.  They had 4 sacks and 3 interceptions in the game.  Their running game is not what it once was, but their passing game is lethal.  Eli Manning continues to raise his level of play and the wide receivers are as good as any in the league.  The Giants will win because of the passing game, not the running game.  The running game just needs to be good enough to take some pressure off the passing game.  This is probably difficult for Giant fans to deal with because they are a traditional running team.  The Giants have so many weapons in the passing game and need to continue to take advantage of their strength.

Carolina is not a very good team and this was a game the Giants should win.  Additionally, they have a history of struggling against the Panthers.  They embarrassed the Giants last season in the final game at Giant Stadium.  The G-Men got some revenge today.  It was essential for the Giants to get off to a good start.  A loss to a mediocre team at home would have been a major red flag for this season.  The win was even more important because they have to go to Indianapolis next week.  The Colts are coming off a loss to the Texans and will be almost impossible to beat in their own building.  The Giants can now go into that game without the fear of going 0-2.

Knowing the Giants style, they will take this first victory in stride.  It is all business for them.  Unlike the other team in town, the Giants do not do a lot of talking.  They do their talking on the field and for one week backed it up.  They will head to Indy and hope for the best.  If they could ever pull off the upset, this season has the potential to be a very special one.  One thing is for sure, unlike fat ass Rex Ryan, Tom Coughlin will definitely not guarantee it.
